How to eat goulash
Traditional Slovak 'gulas' is cooked over an open
fire in a 'kotlik' (copper pot). Tina's dad, a hunter, builds the fire
while the women chop the ingredients in the kitchen.
First, add oil and onions. Then, green peppers. This one was cooked with
venison, a stag that had been shot the previous autumn!
Once the meat is in, water is added along with sweet and spicy paprika. and
the pot covered. After an hour or so, during which time much 'pivo' (beer)
has been consumed, chopped tomatoes and garlic are added. Cover again, drink
some more beer. Total cooking time 3-4 hours.
Allow the women to serve it.
