I remember feeling fascinated and appalled seeing graffitis on ancient monuments for the first time – in Trastevere area in Rome.
Grafitti originates from an Italian word and has existed for millennias.
There are evidences of ancient graffitis in Italy, Greece and Syria. Where
there is a city, there will be restless citizens with something to say,
or spray, on the wall.
Many of them are carefully designed and crafted with TLC. The monkey pictured
is by Banksy,
London's enigmatic graffiti artist. This is his signature tag on Stokenchurch
Street, Fulham. You can find more tags in Hoxton too. He has made a decent
income out of his reputation.
