Beauty, braai and the beasts
Upon her visit to her boyfriend’s homeland of South Africa, Cristina De Luca discovers natural beauty, sandy beaches, animals and beautiful people. She also gets to experience the South African 'braai' or braaivleis (roasted meat) – a barbecue with fish and sausages.

It takes two hours to get the temperature right for the braai to commence. Drinking, Cristina observes, is a good way to kill time. The men would go for the beer, although Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky is also popular, and the ladies would go for slightly milder alternatives such as Smirnoff Ice.
