This
is a delicacy to a lot of people. To some, this is an absolute
taboo.
Cured porcine meats might be one
of the most delicious foods around, but never mind the taste
and the quality of the pigs they originate from. If a food
doesn't fall within a certain cultural or religious definition
of "foodstuff", it is simply unacceptable.
Depending on the societies and the
faiths they live by, what is unacceptable to eat can be downright
illegal. In fact, you can go to hell for consuming it.
Is it fair to vilify
a group of people for eating what is considered unacceptable
in our view? Let's not discuss cannibalism — we all
agree that is wrong — but if
I choose to be a vegan, would I cease to offend everyone?
If I'm not fussed about eating GM food, am I in the wrong?
One of our Sojournposse had this
to say when savaged
by a friend over his choice of diet and his faith (he is
a buddhist that eats meat): "Judge me for what comes out
of my mouth, not by what goes into it."
