They
were at this typical fish market, says Toine, where
you'd find shark's
fin in different sizes, turtles, the usual crabs, sea
cucumber, et cetera.
He recounts: "All
was well until our Italian chef ran back in shock. 'Caputana...
chef... is dog?'
There it was: a frozen dog amongst the goods. Not sure what kind though." Dogs
for human consumption are normally served as roasts or as soup, and they are
specially bred for food, meaning they don't get fed Pedigree Chums.
Pictured in the foreground are two
angler fish. Though not as morbid as the canine carcass,
it is probably more of a criminal offence to eat them as
they are listed by International Council for the Exploration
of the Sea (ICES) as a potentially endangered species.
All mouth and teeth, these deep
sea creatures sell at US$150 a pop in Japan.
