One man's meat...
By Salina Christmas

....can possibly be another man's pet.

After a few years' stint in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Toine Hoeksel was posted by the Ritz Carlton, where he was one of the big chefs, to man the hotel's Shanghai operation.

One of his duties is to make sure that he gets familiar "with suppliers and their hideouts," he tells us. "In other words, we’re auditing them so we have our roots covered in regards to food safety."

While doing spot checks, Toine and colleagues would come across shocking stuff that can persuade them "to turn vegetarian in most cases."

But nothing quite prepared him and his team for this particular find during one routine food inspection.
