In September 2007, Kess Bohan went to Ghana and Jamaica to film
a documentary on HIV.
Pictured is a boy, aged less
than six months, who was born to a HIV-positive mother. He
won't be tested until he is six month to a year old.
The primary cause of HIV transmission
to children is through childbirth or breastfeeding.
According to a UNAIDS epidemic update
of 2006, some 25,000 children below and at the age of 14
are living with HIV and AIDS in Ghana.
It is estimated that less than 10% of these infected children have access to
antiretroviral drugs.
