Brave Hearts

In September 2007, Kess Bohan went to Ghana and Jamaica to film a documentary on HIV.

Pictured is a boy, aged less than six months, who was born to a HIV-positive mother. He won't be tested until he is six month to a year old.

The primary cause of HIV transmission to children is through childbirth or breastfeeding.

According to a UNAIDS epidemic update of 2006, some 25,000 children below and at the age of 14 are living with HIV and AIDS in Ghana. It is estimated that less than 10% of these infected children have access to antiretroviral drugs.
