Wonder Walls

Intrepid traveller Mark Barron visited Macchu Pichu of Peru during his Americas sojourn this year.

Macchu Pichu was announced as one of the new 7 wonders of the world this year, alongside Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal, Rome's Colosseum, Mexico's Chichen Itza, Brazil's Christ Redeemer statue and Jordan's Petra.

The site was built at 2,350m above sea level deep in Amazon jungle in the 15th century. No one knows for sure if it was a glorified tomb or a celestial observation centre.

It takes 2-3 days to do a hike from the base. Alternatively you can take a train or a local bus to the top.
